In Situ Hybridization
Digoxigenin-labelled RNA probes are used to determine the temporal and spatial expression of sets of genes in whole-mount and section preparations of the developing mouse genitourinary system.
Transcriptional Profiling
Micro-dissection and laser capture microscopy are used to isolate signature RNA populations for a particular stage of organ development or for specific cell-type within the developing organ. The transcriptional profile of the organ/tissue is then determined by hybridization to high density microarrays.
Immunostaining
Antibodies generated against proteins encoded by a subset of genes that exhibit particular cell-type specific patterns of expression will be assessed for immunoreactivity in histological sections of genitourinary structures to generate a bank of cell markers.
